#7. Hannibal
(Season 3)
Look, I’m as heartbroken as any (critic) that NBC canceled Brian Fuller’s horror fantasia ‘Hannibal’. Saying that, shouldn’t we all be thankful that they greenly it in the first place? This is a show that would seem artsy on the Sundance channel. Three seasons of the horrifically beautiful love/hate relationship between Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is something to celebrate. The third season, the best of the bunch, ditched the procedural approach of seasons one and two and narrowed its focus on that aforementioned love/hate bond - I’ll let you guess which emotion seemed more prevalent between the two. The season’s first half was a European hunt for Hannibal that dug deep into the hungry doctor’s past and gave showcase to a season-stealing Gillian Anderson. The second half, on the other hand, told the signature story of the Great Red Dragon. Both halves have been told before in various films, but Fuller’s signature style kept the surprises coming. Never have I enjoyed hearing a story for the sixth (or seventh) time more. There was simply nothing else like ‘Hannibal’ on TV in 2015.
